It all began with a sign, two blenders, a freezer, a fridge, and sink.
After traveling through Hawaii, Florida, and California, our founder discovered his love for fresh açaí bowls. But when he returned home to Oklahoma, he couldn’t find a spot that hit the spot. So, with just $750 from his dad, Tyler turned his hunger into bowls locals couldn’t stop craving.
On November 5, 2018, the very first Surf Bar opened in the back of a boutique in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Since, Surf Bar’s been spreading good vibes, one bowl at a time. We’ve expanded to seven locations (plus a food truck!), with franchises joining the party in 2023.
Tyler founded Surf Bar in November 2018 in his hometown of Shawnee, Oklahoma. In 2021, he married his wife, Westie, who has been his rock through the evolution of Surf Bar. These days, he’s focused on the big picture: growth, strategy, and guiding the Surf Bar team. When it’s time to refuel, he goes for the Nutty Kiki.
AJ joined the team in late 2020 and quickly advanced to Director of Operations, where he focuses on optimizing daily operations and developing the business. AJ's favorite bowl is the Shaka, with peanut butter on the bottom and strawberry instead of blueberry.
In August 2022, Matt joined Surf Bar as Financial Controller after being recommended by mutual friends for his essential skills. He oversees daily transactions, prepares budgets, and generates financial reports. Matt's favorite bowl is the Shaka, with kiwi instead of banana.
